A new development has emerged in the case involving five former NHL players accused in the Team Canada junior scandal.

According to CBC, Judge Bruce Thomas has allowed the players to skip the 29 days of preliminary hearings for "economic reasons."
These players, Michael McLeod, Carter Hart, Alex Formenton, Dillon Dubé, and Cal Foote, have all provided sworn statements acknowledging the importance of the proceedings while affirming their need to work to cover their expenses, including legal fees.
It was also revealed that Formenton has ended his hockey career and now works in construction, while McLeod and Dubé are playing in the KHL.
Foote and Hart, on the other hand, continue to train in hopes of resuming their careers. The jury trial is expected to begin in September 2025, where the accused will plead not guilty.
