The National Hockey League announced that Stan Bowman, Al MacIsaac, and Joel Quenneville are now eligible for employment in the NHL. For over two and a half years, these individuals have been unable to work for an NHL team due to their inadequate response when informed in 2010 of allegations that Blackhawks player Kyle Beach was assaulted by the team's video coach.
While it is clear that their responses were unacceptable at the time, each of these three individuals (Messrs. Bowman, MacIsaac, and Quenneville) has acknowledged this and has used their time away to engage in activities that not only demonstrate sincere remorse for what happened but also a greater awareness of the responsibilities of all NHL personnel, especially those in leadership positions. Additionally, each has made significant personal progress by participating in a variety of programs, many of which focused on the imperative to respond effectively and meaningfully to alleged abuse. The League expects them to maintain this commitment in any future role within the NHL and/or one of our clubs.
While clubs are free to discuss potential employment opportunities with Messrs. Bowman, MacIsaac, and Quenneville effective immediately, they will not be permitted to enter into new employment relationships with any of these individuals before Wednesday, July 10, 2024, or after that date.
