The Montreal Canadiens and Kent Hughes are still in discussions with the Jets regarding a high-level prospect.

The situation concerning Rutger McGroarty remains unclear. He is not present at the Jets' development camp and everything suggests he wants to leave the organization.
Kent Hughes is closely monitoring this situation, according to several sources. He has had discussions with the Jets' general manager, but based on Hughes' statements at a press conference yesterday, the Canadiens are not willing to trade prospects for another prospect.
The Canadiens' GM has emphasized several times that it's not productive to swap a promising player for another of similar caliber.
He prefers to retain the Canadiens' prospects and give them the opportunity to develop within the Montreal structure.
Reading between the lines, the Jets are likely asking for players like David Reinbacher, Logan Mailloux, or Lane Hutson, but Hughes is not ready to proceed.
According to Sportsnet journalist Eric Engels, a trade involving McGroarty between the Jets and Canadiens remains a possible scenario, unlike one involving Patrik Laine coming to Montreal.
That's what he stated on the relevant podcast "The Sick Podcast with Tony Marinaro".
