In recent weeks, we learned that the Canadiens were in the running for goaltender Yaroslav Askarov.

The Russian was eventually traded to the San Jose Sharks. Kent Hughes did indeed have discussions with his counterpart from the Predators in an attempt to acquire the former first-round pick.
It can be inferred that the Canadiens are still interested in improving their goaltending position.
However, they already have a very respectable duo in Samuel Montembeault and Cayden Primeau.
David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period has reported that the Panthers are evaluating options for the masked prospect Spencer Knight.
Knight has a somewhat similar profile to Yaroslav Askarov. Knight is behind Bobrovsky with the Panthers, and the defending champions might be tempted to trade him for immediate improvements.
Could Kent Hughes make a call to Florida? Asking the question might be answering it.
The Canadiens' general manager is always aware of young players available across the NHL.
