A seasoned veteran in the National Hockey League since 2011 has just been placed on waivers. Cam Atkinson is now a free agent.
The Philadelphia Flyers have confirmed the news, not entirely unexpectedly. Atkinson was clearly not in favor with coach John Tortorella.
The veteran was set to earn a hefty salary of $5.875 million next season. Daniel Brière thus took drastic measures to move him.
Atkinson has previously had a season with 41 goals for the Blue Jackets. With a reasonable contract, he could still be a valuable asset to an NHL team, especially on a third or fourth line.
