Steven Stamkos has been the heart and soul of the Tampa Bay Lightning since 2008. According to information from Pierre LeBrun, that era now appears to be in the past.

The axe seems to have fallen on the future of the Lightning's captain. Steven Stamkos will become an unrestricted free agent on July 1st, confirmed by his agent, Don Meehan. With Victor Hedman as the Lightning's priority, Julien BriseBois had decisions to make.

At 34 years old, Stamkos, who scored 40 goals, will be highly sought after in the free agent market. Numerous teams will be ready to offer the moon to attract the prolific scorer.
