If the Montreal Canadiens' start to the season is surprising and excellent, it's not the case for one of the team's veterans who should technically be a key player in the lineup. I'm talking about Josh Anderson.

His current performance is not reassuring. In nine games so far, Anderson has scored no goals, and only a measly point, which came in the second game of the season. That's seven games without registering on the scoresheet.
Yet, he has played his games partly on the first line with Nick Suzuki and Cole Caufield, as well as on the second unit.
For a player earning $5.5 million annually for another four seasons, it's very disappointing. He is in his prime at 29, when he should technically be playing the best hockey of his career. However, that's far from the case.
Regarding his inability to produce offensively, Anderson made a recent statement that sparked many criticisms. He stated that the fact he hasn't scored yet doesn't bother him.
He mentions that the team's current success allows him not to stress too much about his inability to produce.
«I'd feel much worse if we weren't having success as a team. Since things are going well, I try not to think about it too much.»

He adds that opportunities have presented themselves, and it will eventually happen.
«What's encouraging is that the chances are there. So, it's bound to happen eventually.»

However, the issue with Anderson's statement is that he doesn't seem to feel any pressure to produce. For a player averaging 17 minutes per game and holding a spot on the first power play unit, this is the kind of talk that doesn't sit well. You can't just be a passenger on this team, especially when you earn $5.5 million annually for another four seasons.
He's 29, he's not a rookie anymore, and he's currently overshadowing Alex Newhook and Juraj Slafkovsky on his line.
There's a lot of discontent about Brendan Gallagher's play because of his big salary, but at least he works hard every night, and he has two goals to his name. Anderson is the fourth highest paid on the team, and he has contributed to only one of the 28 goals scored by the Canadiens this season.
Such a nonchalant attitude is not what fans want to hear.
