Future Vézina Winner to Join the Canadiens Organization: NHL Analyst Makes a Shocking Statement on Prospect Jacob Fowler
The most pleasant surprise for the Montreal Canadiens this season is undoubtedly the performance of Quebecois goalie, Samuel Montembeault. Many fans were wondering if the 27-year-old netminder would be able to take on a more significant role by becoming the organization's number one, but it must be acknowledged that the former Florida Panther is quite convincing at the moment.
However, despite his excellent performances, it's still legitimate to question whether number 35 will be able to help the Tricolore eventually win the big honors, hence the reasoning behind the selection of the young 18-year-old American goalie, Jacob Fowler, in the last draft.
Moreover, the Boston College rookie is currently making waves, potentially being the best goalie selected in the 2023 draft, according to many experts. Indeed, in his first year at the collegiate level, the third-round pick immediately took over the starting goalie position, playing in all 24 games his team has participated in so far this season.
He notably performed very well against Lane Hutson and Macklin Celebrini last weekend, conceding only four goals during his two victories to bring his record to 18-4-1, all while maintaining a goals against average of 2.25 and an impressive save percentage of .924.
In a recent podcast, former NHL player Ryan Whitney, who faced many goalies during his 10 seasons in the NHL, praised the Bleu-Blanc-Rouge prospect highly. He even went so far as to say he would become a future star, stating he was a mix of Patrick Roy, Carey Price, Martin Brodeur, and Dominik Hasek.
«He has to be one of the best goalies I've seen in college hockey. He's 6'2" and Montreal took him in the third round. The fact that this kid was picked in the third round, I'm telling you, Canadiens fans, this kid is going to be a star in the NHL.
He's incredible, it's like he's Dominik Hasek combined with Patrick Roy, Carey Price, and Martin Brodeur. This weekend, I saw a college goalie playing at a level I've never seen before.» - Ryan Whitney
Wow! It's really promising to hear such a statement.
Of course, it's still far too early to predict the impact he will have in the NHL, but the fact that many observers believe he has the potential to become a star is undoubtedly exciting. For sure, it seems that Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens made a real steal by selecting him 69th overall.
