Major unexpected development with a key offensive player for the Maple Leafs
The Toronto Maple Leafs are grappling with the salary cap situation due to several significant contracts they need to manage.
Names like Matthews, Marner, Nylander, and Tavares come to mind. However, the Leafs cannot afford to lose the young talents in their organization if they want to maintain a strong roster depth.
A major development has recently occurred concerning young forward Nick Robertson. According to the well-informed Darren Dreger, Robertson is expected to sign a one-year contract with the Leafs after all.
The negotiations between Robertson and the Toronto organization had reached an impasse, with the player even requesting a trade earlier in the summer.
New head coach Craig Berube has managed to persuade Robertson to stay and be part of the new project he aims to implement.
Berube, who is respected across the NHL, will bring a fresh approach to the Maple Leafs. He even envisions Robertson in an offensive line, with a spot in the top-6 and significant ice time to make an impact.
Robertson scored 17 goals last season in a supporting role.
