The Canadiens have heavily invested in drafts in recent years, leading to a promising pool of prospects for the future.
While much attention is given to young players like Lane Hutson, David Reinbacher, Logan Mailloux, Owen Beck, and of course Ivan Demidov, some, like Oliver Kapanen, are often overlooked. We mentioned this yesterday.
Another example is defenseman Adam Engstrom. The Swede is a very reliable defender in his own zone and has been making excellent progress since moving to professional play in his home country.
As a third-round pick in 2022, he could turn out to be a steal for the Canadiens. Sportsnet journalist Eric Engels even goes as far as to call him the most underrated prospect in the entire organization.

Engstrom might soon make his debut with the Laval Rocket. Of course, competition will be fierce on the blue line in the coming seasons for a spot in Montreal.
Adam Engstrom could be a well-rounded and very useful defenseman for a third pairing with the Canadiens. That would be a luxury!
