A major turnaround is about to happen in Toronto, and the Maple Leafs could be in serious trouble due to an imminent return.

"The eventual return of a goalie could complicate things for the Maple Leafs." - TVA Sports

Indeed, according to the latest developments around the team, it seems that, quite in extremis, goalie Matt Murray, who has been a burden for several years in the NHL, could be making a comeback soon.
"Goalie Matt Murray has started skating again, but this does not necessarily represent good news for the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Last Friday, the 29-year-old athlete put on his gear for a brief exercise session before an official team practice. Murray has not guarded the net in the National Hockey League (NHL) since April 2." - TVA Sports

According to recent information reported by the excellent Elliotte Friedman, Murray could get the green light to return to play by April. Wow!
Given that the Leafs have only about $1.3M available under the salary cap, if Murray's $4.687M contract were to be activated from long-term injured reserve, it would be a real problem for this organization.
We are eager to see how this file will evolve over the coming days/weeks.
