At the end of the season review for the Montreal Canadiens, General Manager Kent Hughes made a significant statement regarding Samuel Montembeault, which confirms an important matter for the upcoming campaign.
This puts an end to some speculation about the possibility of acquiring a goaltender during the offseason, as well as on the role Montembeault will hold in his first NHL campaign without an experienced veteran goalie by his side.
However, there will be a significant battle for the net with young Cayden Primeau. Hughes has also refused to label him, preferring instead that he proves he can become the best goalie possible.
27-year-old Montembeault finished the season with a 3.14 goals against average and a .903 save percentage. In 41 games, he recorded a positive record of 16-15-9, but did not achieve any shutouts.
