According to journalist Arpon Basu from The Athletic, the outcome of Ivan Demidov's performance at the upcoming SKA St. Petersburg training camp will determine whether the Canadiens will apply pressure on the Russian club.
Although Demidov has another year left on his contract in Russia, it's not impossible that he could join Montreal this fall.
The KHL season starts before the NHL, with SKA's first game scheduled for September 5.
This means decisions about Demidov will be made before the Canadiens' golf tournament.
