Major trade thoroughly won by Kent Hughes and the Penguins are humiliated
When Kent Hughes decides to make a trade, he always thoroughly evaluates all possible scenarios beforehand. A trade completed exactly one year ago serves as further proof of this.
The General Manager of the Montreal Canadiens orchestrated a three-team trade involving the Pittsburgh Penguins and the San Jose Sharks.
Ultimately, 12 players were part of the deal, with the key move being defenseman Erik Karlsson transferring from the Sharks to the Penguins.
Kent Hughes let go, or rather, offloaded Mike Hoffman along with Rem Pitlick.
In return, the Canadiens received Jeff Petry, goaltender Casey DeSmith, Quebecer Nathan Légaré, and a second-round pick.
Later, Hughes worked his magic again by trading Jeff Petry and, later in the summer, moving goaltender Smith.
He cleared the contracts of Hoffman and Pitlick to create room for young prospects.
A true masterstroke by Kent Hughes!
