Elliotte Friedman has just revealed relevant information concerning a potential trade of Jake Allen to the Montreal Canadiens.
According to him, Kent Hughes has openly communicated to all the league's general managers regarding the veteran goalkeeper.
"Elliotte Friedman says on HNIC that the Canadiens have informed other teams that they are comfortable finishing the season with 3 goalkeepers and resolving the situation in the summer, if necessary. Therefore, it's possible that neither Allen nor Primeau will be transferred by next Friday." - via Habslink
This puts things into perspective regarding what's coming for the Canadiens.
Hughes has informed of his intentions to clarify the situation about the fact that the Canadiens were not necessarily desperate with their trio. By stating that he could easily let this last until the end of the season, the GM somewhat takes back control of the negotiations.
This is a smart move on Hughes' part and clearly demonstrates his intention not to falter on the first offer that might come, which could be unfavorable for the Canadiens.
Unless there's a big surprise, Allen should therefore finish the campaign in Montreal, and we will have to wait until this summer before a resolution in this matter.
