MAJOR: Kent Hughes Confirms Massive Rumour in New Interview
In the last few minutes, the general manager of the Canadiens, Kent Hughes, was a guest on Pierre LeBrun and Ryan Rishaug's TSN podcast to discuss several interesting topics.
One of the points that caught attention was about the goaltender situation within the organization.
Hughes just confirmed a big rumor
The GM of the Canadiens officially confirmed that he was focused on finding a business partner for one of his goaltenders. Although he did not mention his name publicly, it is quite clear that he is talking about Jake Allen.
Hughes also revealed that the goaltender market is currently at an all-time low, notably due to the salary cap constraints of teams.
The $3.85M salary of the 33-year-old veteran goaltender certainly complicates the task for the Canadiens' executive, even if he were to retain a portion of this salary.
A trade expected by the March 8 deadline?
The Canadiens' boss also addressed, with refreshing candor, whether or not the three-goalie situation could be resolved by the March 8 trade deadline.
Hughes stated that he could not guarantee that there will be a deal with another team for Allen.
However, he added that although the club will still have three goaltenders signed for next season with Montembeault, Primeau, and Allen, he assures fans that he will resolve the situation by the next campaign.
In other words, whether it's Primeau or Allen, one of them is certain to leave the Canadiens during the summer.
