Filip Mesar has not shown the best progress since being selected by the Canadiens in the first round of the 2022 draft.
He seemed to plateau last season in the OHL with the Kitchener Rangers, recording only 52 points in 45 games when he was expected to excel at 19 years old.
Mesar might make the jump to the Laval Rocket this season, but looking at the rosters, there doesn't seem to be much room for him offensively, and he could quickly end up in a very minor role.
In the Eyes On The Prize podcast, there is a suggestion to consider loaning Filip Mesar to a professional team in Europe where he could have a more significant role to aid in his development.
The idea is intriguing. It might be better for him to get ice time and produce offensively to regain confidence rather than playing on a 3rd or even 4th line in Laval.
According to some experts, Mesar is considered one of the less favorable picks by Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton since they began their tenure, though they still have a good track record overall.
