Leon Draisaitl is entering the final year of his contract, and rumors about his next destination are already intensifying.

The most likely scenario is that he will sign an extension with the Oilers, but progress on this front seems to have stalled.
The finalists of the last Stanley Cup have appointed a new general manager following the recent draft.
Stan Bowman is now in charge of hockey operations for the Oilers. He returns to the NHL after a turbulent end with the Chicago Blackhawks.
Bowman discussed Draisaitl's situation recently during the Hlinka-Gretzky Tournament.
«I had a good conversation (with his agent), and we're starting things. The timeline on this will be what it will be. I don't have an update on the schedule, but there's nothing negative to share, that's for sure.»

- Stan Bowman, General Manager of the Oilers
Draisaitl currently earns just $8.5 million annually and is expected to see a significant increase after another season with over 100 points and a strong playoff performance with 31 points.
The Oilers will soon need to sign Evan Bouchard, and McDavid will also require an extension within the next two years. In short, this is a situation to watch closely in Edmonton.
