Kent Hughes Believes the Canadiens Will Be Competitive Next Season
One thing that seems evident with the Montreal Canadiens is that another busy summer awaits Kent Hughes and the club's management team.
Unless there's a surprising turnaround, the Canadiens are expected to hold the 7th pick in the upcoming June draft. With such a quality choice, the CH should be able to secure another very important piece of the puzzle to reboot the franchise.
Kent Hughes Reveals His Draft Strategy
In connection with what's coming for the Canadiens, during an interview at the last game, the general manager addressed a few notable topics, including the strategy for the upcoming draft.
"Kent Hughes, during the intermission, stated that they plan to draft the best player available this year and made it clear that he wants the team to be MUCH more competitive next year. I just hope the best player available isn't a defender, but very excited about what's coming." - via Habs Digest
The strategy of choosing the best player available is always the best option for an organization.
It's usually the opposite case, when selecting for needs, as we've seen too often in Montreal in the past, notably with Jesperi Kotkaniemi, that draft blunders occur.
There will be a tremendous amount of talent among the top ten picks, which is highly promising for the CH.
Hughes Confirms What Everyone Was Expecting for Next Year
Furthermore, during this interview, we also heard from the GM that the Canadiens will be much more competitive next season.
The management's standards will change, meaning that goals will be more aligned with the team's performance.
Therefore, we should see a Canadiens team with much more bite and probably more interesting to watch play.
