Experienced former NHL head coach to join the Canadiens bench?
An unexpected yet interesting option could present itself for the Montreal Canadiens to support Martin St-Louis and add experience behind the bench.
Indeed, the possibility of adding Bruce Boudreau, a career coach with successful stints in the NHL, could materialize, especially after his recent public remarks about the Canadiens.
The former coach of the Capitals, Ducks, Wild, and Canucks is a fan of what the Canadiens are building, and he greatly appreciated the contract extension of Martin St-Louis with the team.
Following the end-of-season reviews, the new directive within the organization is for the team to take a significant step forward next year, to be in the conversation for a playoff spot.
Boudreau addressed this situation and mentioned several interesting elements for the upcoming season:
"Now, they need to take the next step. They will have a bit more pressure to start winning next year, and I believe the fans in Montreal deserve to start seeing improvements in results, so it will be very interesting.
I think that next year, they will want to win more. I think they'll be busy this summer trying to acquire good players, obviously Juraj Slafkovsky has shown very clearly that he can play, they have good young players, so I think next year Montreal will make its mark and will try to qualify.
Now, they need to win hockey games." - Bruce Boudreau
Surprise addition to the CH coaching staff next year?
The option to add Boudreau to the coaching panel has been raised, notably as a power-play specialist.
"Bruce Boudreau, do you like poutine and would you like to help improve the power play of the Canadiens as an assistant coach to Martin St-Louis next season?" - HabsOnReddit
The idea is not so far-fetched, especially since in the past, his teams have mostly been very productive offensively. Several players have had their best offensive seasons under Boudreau's guidance.
It remains to be seen if the Canadiens' management will consider such an addition to be interesting among the coaching group.
