Cole Caufield stuns with reaction about off-season plans: worrying
After a statement from the general manager, the Montreal Canadiens' sharpshooter, Cole Caufield, has made a total plan change regarding the end of his season.
Last week, when asked about the possibility of joining the American team for the upcoming Senior World Championship, the Canadiens' number 22 didn't seem really enthusiastic about the idea.
He hadn't closed the door, but let's say his response showed a lot of reservation about his interest in extending his current season.
"Keeping it in mind. Let's finish the season here and see." - Cole Caufield
Major turnaround for Cole Caufield
However, in the meantime, the general manager of the American team, Bill Guérin, made a statement that changed everything for the first-round pick of the 2019 draft.
He stated that a player would do well to say yes and seize the opportunity to join the delegation this spring at the World Championship if they want a chance to participate in the Four Nations Tournament next year, or even the Olympic Games in 2026.
It didn't take long for this response to completely change Caufield's plans.
"And now, his response changed. Even Arpon Basu noted how quickly he changed his mind, in his article.
"It's something I've always wanted to do. Maybe this year." - Cole Caufield
Obviously, Cole will need an invitation from Team USA for this, but given that the tournament takes place in early May, it wouldn't be surprising to see him participate, especially if he remains healthy by the end of the Canadiens' regular season.
He is now aware that if he wants a chance to represent his country at the next major international events, he will need to extend his current season by a good additional month.
