Bad reputation: Filip Mesar defends himself
Filip Mesar, selected by the Montreal Canadiens in the first round of 2022, immediately joined the Kitchener Rangers in the OHL.
He recorded 51 points in 52 games in his first season, followed by 52 points in 45 games the next year, albeit without significant improvement.
Mesar stirred controversy in late June by suggesting he outshone his Kitchener Rangers teammates in the Ontario Hockey League, implying they struggled to keep up with his high level of play.
Later, in an interview with Tomas Prokop of Dennik Sports, he attempted to repair his image by stating he actively assists his younger teammates. He aims to crack the Laval Rocket lineup this season after two unsuccessful tries.
The Canadiens exempted him from summer development camp to focus on training, hoping he displays a more collaborative and respectful attitude towards teammates of all ages.
