Even though the Canadiens have an intriguing goaltending tandem, Kent Hughes might be tempted by a promising prospect available on the market.
This isn't the first time the name of young goaltender Yaroslav Askarov has been linked with the Canadiens.
Askarov, a first-round pick, currently sits behind Juuse Sarros with the Nashville Predators. Sarros recently signed an eight-year extension with the Preds, leaving little room for Askarov to establish himself in the NHL.
According to the well-informed Elliotte Friedman, GM Barry Trotz is open to trading Askarov and wants to capitalize on his value. While Samuel Montembeault is performing well and Cayden Primeau is making progress, Askarov remains a top-tier prospect.
