Sources indicate that Milan Lucic trained in New Jersey this summer in an effort to continue his playing career.
Lucic is currently ineligible to return to the NHL. He was arrested in Boston last November for assault, pleaded not guilty, and the charges were dropped in February when his wife invoked marital privilege and refused to testify.
Lucic took an indefinite leave from the Bruins following his arrest and did not return to the team. His one-year contract expired on June 30.
NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman will need to approve Lucic's return to play, even though he has not been officially suspended by the league. Lucic has entered the NHL/NHLPA's assistance program.
