The Montreal Canadiens and Kent Hughes are evaluating different scenarios to improve the team for the upcoming season.

An intriguing trade proposal has been circulating online, once again linking the name of forward Martin Necas to the Canadiens.
His situation with the Carolina Hurricanes is murky as they will need to find a way to free up salary cap space to re-sign him.
Given this predicament, the Canadiens might consider a trade with the Hurricanes to acquire this underrated player in exchange for a top prospect.
The proposal comes from the insightful hockey blogger Marc-Olivier Beaudoin:
"I would try to include the 27th pick in a package to acquire Martin Necas. Alternatively, I could pursue another option like Trevor Zegras. The package would consist of the 1st round pick from Winnipeg, Logan Mailloux (yes, he will be good, but you have to give to get!), and another asset (player/pick/prospect). If that doesn't work, I would offer less to try to acquire Dawson Mercer, Alex Holtz, or Jack Quinn."

In summary:
"In Montreal: Martin Necas

In Carolina: 27th overall pick in 2024 (1st from WPG), Logan Mailloux, Another pick or prospect like Sean Farrell"
