The Montreal Canadiens' lineup for the start of the upcoming season is beginning to take shape. With training camp approaching, the battles are expected to be interesting.

The media outlet *The Hockey News*, through journalist Tim Hiebert, has projected what the Canadiens' roster might look like for their opening game of the season against the Maple Leafs.
On offense, there's nothing particularly surprising. Joshua Roy is slotted on the third line, with other Quebecers Alex Barré-Boulet and Brandon Gignac listed as extras due to Rafael Harvey-Pinard's injury absence.
The real focus is on the defense. No young defenders like Lane Hutson, David Reinbacher, or Logan Mailloux are included in the defensive lineup.
According to *The Hockey News*, none of them are expected to push the management's decision during training camp.
Here's the projected lineup from THN:
-Forwards:
Caufield - Suzuki - Slafkovsky
Gallagher - Newhook - Dach
Roy - Evans - Anderson
Pezzetta - Dvorak - Armia
Extras: Barré-Boulet / Gignac

-Defensemen:
Matheson - Barron
Guhle - Savard
Xhekaj - Harris
Extra: Struble

-Goalies:
Montembeault
Primeau
