Over the past few days, the Montreal Canadiens made a rather surprising call-up from the Laval Rocket.

Indeed, while some fans expected Logan Mailloux or William Trudeau to join the main club, it's the young 22-year-old defenseman, Jayden Struble, who will have the opportunity to potentially play his first game in the NHL.
Although Struble is a bit less known than the two previously mentioned names, the Northeastern University alumnus possesses a very interesting potential. Selected in the second round of the 2019 draft, this left-handed defenseman could become an improved version of Arber Xhekaj in a few years.
Struble, known for his robust style of play, excels in the art of delivering solid hits to his opponents. He is also capable of making a significant offensive contribution, having amassed six points in twelve games in the American League this year.
Moreover, the Cumberland native is extremely reliable defensively (with a differential of +4), and does not hesitate to drop the gloves to defend his teammates.
"We often talk about the defensive depth of the Canadiens but we talk less about Jayden Struble who is having an excellent season in Laval so far.

He has collected 6 points in 12 games but in addition, he is reliable defensively, physical, and is not afraid to drop the gloves!" - Marc-Olivier Beaudoin

Furthermore, according to many observers following the activities of the Laval Rocket, the defenseman has a playing style very similar to that of number 72 of the Montreal Canadiens.
Although he may not have the same abilities as Xhekaj when it comes to engaging in a fight, his work in the defensive zone and his ease in moving forward could make him a better defenseman than his teammate.
Do you believe that the Canadiens' prospect has the potential to become an improved version of Arber Xhekaj? If so, he could certainly play a crucial role in Montreal's defense in the coming years.
Certainly, it will be very interesting to follow his progression over the next few weeks, as he may possibly make his NHL debut this week.
Here are some videos of Jayden Struble dropping the gloves, there is no doubt that the defenseman knows how to defend himself well:
