The development of Juraj Slafkovsky has been a hot topic since his first NHL game.

Opinions vary on what would be best for the young player, with even experts disagreeing on the right game plan to help the first overall pick reach his full potential.
However, one of the most common suggestions is to send the 19-year-old Slovak to the American Hockey League to play a key role with the Laval Rocket.
Regarding a potential reassignment to Laval, the general manager of the Canadiens caused some surprise by mentioning that it remains a very real possibility.
While interviewing with a journalist from Slovakia, Kent Hughes stated that he is not completely closing the door on sending Slafkovsky to the AHL if the management feels it is necessary.
"If we feel at some point that his confidence is shaken, we will consider it. We want to put him in the best conditions to be dominant in a few years, and if Laval is the best place for him, we will consider it." – Kent Hughes

Wow!
This is possibly one of the first times we hear that the Canadiens are open to taking a small step back with their young prospect, for the sake of his long-term development.
In the same interview, Hughes also addressed another hot topic, that of allowing him to participate in the World Junior Championship in a few weeks.
His interesting response can be found in the following article:
