A year after the NHL controversially withdrew all events related to any social cause, including any allusion to LGBTQ+ pride, the Montreal Canadiens have sent a serious message to Gary Bettman.

The National Hockey League's decision had sparked significant reaction, and many fans wanted to see the Montreal organization take a stand against the criticized position of the NHL's higher-ups.
«The NHL's retreat in response to some of its players' intolerance towards LGBTQ+ individuals sends a clear message not only to its fans, but to everyone involved in hockey. It confirms that even in the largest professional hockey league, LGBTQ+ individuals are a distraction and that there is no need to work on their inclusion.» - Via an article from La Presse

Gary Bettman sees awareness events as a distraction, and it's unfortunate, as sports organizations have a strong power of influence.
The Montreal Canadiens are well aware of their role in society. That's why a pride night still took place yesterday, despite Gary Bettman's strict rules.
«It's the annual Pride night at the Bell Centre

Monday's game will mark the eighth edition of the Canadiens' annual Pride night, presented in partnership with Scotia Bank.

Organizations and members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community will be at the Bell Centre for the evening, which is a celebration of diversity and inclusion in hockey. By visiting fierte.encanpro.ca, fans can bid on experiences and items, ranging from a pair of Canadiens game tickets that include a meeting with Samuel Montembeault, to a wide range of Pride items signed by the 2023-2024 team, in addition to sticks wrapped in the Pride Ribbon (added to the auction after the warm-up).

Funds raised during the auction will be donated to You Can Play and GRIS-Montréal, two organizations that promote diversity and inclusion in sports and society. For more information on the evening, visit canadiens.com/fierte.» - Montreal Canadiens

It's admirable that the Montreal Canadiens stand up and defy Gary Bettman's regulations to continue supporting very important causes.
