Due to the significant addition of players in recent years to the organizational structure, the Montreal Canadiens risk losing seven young talents, many of whom show interesting potential.
A certainty emerges: Kent Hughes will not be able to retain all of them, due to the NHL's 50-contract limit. Therefore, the General Manager of the Canadiens will have to make delicate choices and bet on the youngsters in whom he has the most confidence.
Among them, three players I would like to see the Canadiens retain are Jared Davidson, who is currently playing his first season with the Laval Rocket, Miguel Tourigny, an offensive defenseman, and the robust power forward Luke Tuch, a second-round pick in 2020.
However, not all youngsters will necessarily be inclined to accept this path, preferring to believe in the possibility of being called up with a real two-way NHL contract.
Unless there's a surprise, it seems unlikely that Petteri Nurmi, Blake Biondi, and Ty Smilanic will continue their journey with the Canadiens. The case of Cedrick Guindon, meanwhile, remains uncertain.
