Incredible Gesture From Carey Price Goes Viral
Being a goaltender is, without a doubt, the most difficult position in hockey. It's also the one that comes with the most pressure. You have no room for error, and you can't make mistakes.
Now imagine being the goalie for the Montreal Canadiens!
That comes with a ton of pressure, and despite exceptional performances, you rarely please everyone. Just think of Patrick Roy and José Théodore.
Carey Price held this position for many years, and like many star players in Montreal, he did not unanimously win over the fans of the Canadiens. Some said he was overrated, and his casual attitude sometimes irritated many. His calmness in the net was criticized; he wasn't combative enough, some said.
Carey Price is undoubtedly one of the best goalies of his generation. However, one thing that seems to be unanimously recognized is his great generosity, as evidenced in the aftermath of Stéphane Waite's firing.
During his appearance on the show "On Jase" on RDS, Waite shared that Price showed up at his house the day after his firing to offer his support. He also gave him one of his masks as a token of appreciation for everything he had done for him.
The mask Price offered was significant to him since it's the one he had made and worn following the birth of his daughter Liv (his daughter's name can be seen on the mask). This simple gesture of recognition seems to have really pleased the former Montreal Canadiens goaltending coach.
In the video, you can also see that Price took the time to handwrite a thank you note directly on the mask for his former mentor.
Carey Price may never be unanimously praised for his on-ice performances, but with this gesture, he has shown great class. A gesture that honors him.
