Jeff Petry Reveals What Really Went Down When He Returned to Montreal
On the sidelines of the game against the Detroit Red Wings, former Montreal Canadiens defenseman Jeff Petry responded to questions from Quebec journalists for the first time since the trade that sent him to his childhood team.
The former number 26 of the Canadiens conveyed a heartfelt message to Kent Hughes, noting that the general manager of the CH showed great class by agreeing to trade him to an American market.
"Kent Hughes spoke to me quickly to describe his intentions. He was honest. He wanted to trade me, but there were several implications.
I liked our conversation after the trade from the Penguins to the Canadiens. He told me that he would work hard to find the best solution for me. He acted with class." - Jeff Petry
Wow! While this statement might seem trivial, it demonstrates how much the Montreal management wants to treat its players well.
There is no doubt that the gesture made by Kent Hughes is now known throughout the league, and this could greatly help him in repatriating players during the free agent market opening.
The defenseman also took the time to thank the GM of the Canadiens for everything he has done for his family and him. It should be noted that Jeff Petry is a native of Michigan, and the opportunity to continue his career in Detroit was literally the ideal scenario.
We sincerely hope that things get back on track for him with the Red Wings and we wish him the best of luck with his new team!
