Martin Necas, forward for the Carolina Hurricanes, has opted for salary arbitration, thereby ruling out any possibility of an offer sheet.
However, he remains highly desirable on the NHL trade market. David Pagnotta reports that negotiations for a trade involving Necas are resuming, even a week after the 2024 NHL Draft.
Necas is among a group of 14 players choosing arbitration, making an offer sheet impossible, an option recently considered.
Despite tallying 71 points in 82 games in the 2022-2023 season, justifying a salary demand of around $7 million annually, his performance dipped to 53 points in 77 games in 2023-2024, complicating his contract situation. It is possible that Necas and the Hurricanes will reach an agreement before the arbitration hearing.
