In the last few hours, TVA Sports journalist Renaud Lavoie reported very interesting news about the General Manager of the Montreal Canadiens, Kent Hughes.
Indeed, the GM of the Bleu-Blanc-Rouge officially left Montreal to head to Minnesota to scout the organization's prospects, namely Lane Hutson, Jacob Fowler, and Luke Tuch, at the NCAA's Frozen Four.
"So it's no surprise that General Manager Kent Hughes has packed his bags for Minnesota, host of the [NCAA] tournament." - Renaud Lavoie
Note that the Boston University Terriers and Lane Hutson will face the University of Denver in the semifinal tonight at 5 PM, while Boston College and Jacob Fowler will go up against the University of Michigan afterward, at 8:30 PM.
This means that the two top prospects of the Canadiens could play for the highest honors Saturday night, in a final that promises to be highly competitive.
Selected 62nd overall in the 2022 draft, the young 20-year-old defenseman has been demolishing his competition in the American college ranks, accumulating 30 goals and 67 assists (97 points) in just 76 games. This tally exceeds that of NHL stars such as Cale Makar, Adam Fox, and Quinn Hughes during their NCAA tenure.
As for Jacob Fowler, the third-round pick in 2023 had an exceptional rookie season. Playing his first year in the college league, he immediately claimed the number one spot, compiling a record of 31 wins, 5 losses, and one overtime loss. He also posted very impressive stats with a goals-against average of 2.20 and a save percentage of 0.924.
Certainly, the future of the organization is in good hands with these two leading prospects!
Do you think the GM of the Canadiens made the trip to facilitate the eventual contract signing of Lane Hutson? After all, once his season is over, the defenseman will be free to sign a three-year deal with the major league club to join the team for the last games of the regular season.
"Will Kent Hughes be taking a plane back with Lane Hutson to bring him directly to Montreal? The last two games are against the Red Wings [one in Montreal, the other in Detroit]. Where is our friend Lane Hutson from? Michigan." - Renaud Lavoie
A scenario that seems written in the stars!
The wait is almost over as fans will likely have the opportunity to see Lane Hutson's first strides in the Montreal Canadiens uniform within a few days.
