Excellent News Confirmed for Three Canadiens Prospects
Once again this year, the Montreal Canadiens are having a rather difficult season, leading some fans to doubt the rebuilding process started by Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton. However, several prospects in the organization are currently shining, suggesting that the Canadiens are destined for a promising future.
Three Very Encouraging Announcements
Indeed, young defenseman Lane Hutson is simply dominating this season, having once again won the title of outstanding defenseman in the Hockey East association in the NCAA!
After an extraordinary year with 48 points in 39 games, the 62nd overall pick in 2022 has amassed an impressive total of eight goals and eight assists (16 points) in 13 games this season.
There is no doubt that he will become a key element in Martin St-Louis' lineup in a few seasons, being an ideal quarterback to boost the Canadiens' power play. It should be noted that some observers have mentioned that Lane Hutson has potential as exciting as young offensive defensemen like Quinn Hughes and Adam Fox.
However, Lane Hutson is not the only prospect in the organization to stand out in college ranks. The third-round pick in the last draft, Jacob Fowler, won the title of goaltender of the month in the Hockey East association, for the second consecutive time.
Playing his first season with Boston College, the rookie has immediately established himself as the team's starting goaltender. Moreover, he is clearly showing the Canadiens' management that he is a player to watch closely, having compiled a record of eleven wins, two losses, and one overtime loss. He also recorded an impressive goals-against average of 1.98 and a remarkable save percentage of 0.931.
It is still too early to confirm beyond any doubt that he will become the Canadiens' future number one goaltender, but everything suggests that the Bleu-Blanc-Rouge have a netminder who could eventually succeed Samuel Montembeault.
Finally, the first-round pick in 2022, Filip Mesar, is literally on fire since his return to the junior ranks, having earned the title of player of the month in the OHL.
Although some fans had already given up on him, having only accumulated 51 points in 52 games last year, the Slovak forward is proving his critics wrong at the moment. Indeed, the Canadiens' prospect is having a thunderous season with the Kitchener Rangers, scoring 11 goals and 15 assists (26 points) in just 15 junior league games.
Only 19 years old, he could very well become an important member of Martin St-Louis' top two lines in the coming years. Let's hope he can continue to progress in this way throughout the season and possibly join the Laval Rocket in 2024-2025.
One thing is certain, the Montreal Canadiens have several very promising prospects and it will be interesting to see how they develop over the next few years.
