Jake Allen's Trade Value Officially Revealed
In the last few hours, the Montreal Canadiens announced that Samuel Montembeault has signed a three-year extension with the organization, raising numerous questions about Jake Allen's future with the team.
Given that the Canadiens' general manager, Kent Hughes, will inevitably have to trade a goalie to resolve the team's goaltender situation, many believe Montembeault's signing could mean Jake Allen will soon be traded.
If this scenario materializes, it would officially make Montembeault the number one goalie, backed up by the young Cayden Primeau.
However, while some fans expected the Canadiens to receive a substantial return in a trade involving the 33-year-old veteran, experts like David Pagnotta and Frank Seravalli do not share this view.
Marc-Olivier Beaudoin recently mentioned that Kent Hughes might need to offer an additional asset for a team to take on Jake Allen's contract ($3.85 million for the next two seasons).
"If Kent Hughes can find a buyer for Jake Allen without spending an asset to trade him, that's the route that should be taken in my opinion.
Cayden Primeau has been good this season (except for 2-3 periods) and his age/contract makes much more sense for the CH." - Marc-Olivier Beaudoin
Wow! This suggests that the CH goalie has a negative value on the trade market!
However, such a trade would undoubtedly be beneficial for the organization. Samuel Montembeault and Cayden Primeau would get quality minutes for their development, and the Montreal Canadiens could create significant cap savings for free agents next summer.
Clearly, this will be a situation to watch closely in the coming weeks.
