A huge statement has just surfaced about a potential acquisition of a young 70-point scorer in the NHL by Kent Hughes and the Canadiens this summer.

It's no longer a secret in the hockey world, after Kirby Dach in 2022 and Alex Newhook in 2023, Kent Hughes wants to make another splash to accelerate the rebuilding of his club by adding another young player via a trade to strengthen the Canadiens' offense.
In connection with this strong possibility of seeing another major acquisition during the offseason, TVA Sports journalist Renaud Lavoie has just seriously linked the talented Martin Necas to the CH.
« Martin Necas is a restricted free agent at the end of the season, noted Lavoie. In the National League, what's circulating is that he's a player who would like to find himself with another team. » - Renaud Lavoie

He even adds that he wonders if Necas might be the next player to join the Canadiens.
« This story might not be over yet. » - Renaud Lavoie

At 25 years old, the Czech player was the 12th overall pick in the 2017 draft, just one spot ahead of a certain Nick Suzuki. In 355 NHL games, he has totaled 96 goals and 242 points.
He is a versatile 6-foot-2, 198-pound forward who can play both center and wing.
He scored 28 goals and 71 points last year in Carolina, and he is on track to finish the current campaign with more than 25 goals and about 60 points.
He would certainly be a significant addition to the Tricolore's top-6, especially if Kent Hughes manages to acquire him without using his top-7 pick in the next draft.
The arrival of a young talent like Cayden Lindstrom, Cole Eiserman, or Ivan Demidov in the 2024 draft, combined with the acquisition of Necas, would definitely put an end to the rebuilding process, to finally become a competitive team again next year.
A trio composed of Dach, Newhook, and Necas, awaiting the breakout of the 7th overall pick, would be a high-quality second line.
