Major Trade Officially Looming Between the Ducks and Canadiens for Trevor Zegras?
As you know, Trevor Zegras' name has been linked to the Montreal Canadiens several times over the past few weeks, especially since the star forward was tagged as being available on the trade market by several observers.
Indeed, according to numerous sources, the Tricolore would be among the potential destinations to acquire the ninth overall pick in 2019. It remains to be seen if these rumors are really founded or if they are mainly based on the wish of Montreal fans to see him join his good friend, Cole Caufield, with the Bleu-Blanc-Rouge.
If these speculations were mostly coming from local media, now a journalist covering the Ducks' activities for "The Athletic," Eric Duhatschek, has just confirmed that a trade with the CH could be a real possibility.
"And when we realize that the talk is going in that direction even far from Montreal, we notice that it's quite a bit of smoke.
In his article yesterday for The Athletic, Eric Duhatschek talked a bit about the Zegras case, and his conclusion was clear: the Canadiens and the Ducks 'look like two potential partners' for a transaction involving Zegras." - Félix Forget
Wow! So, this rumor is also starting to make noise in Anaheim!
The journalist added that the general manager of the Canadiens, Kent Hughes, seems to have a preference for forwards drafted in 2019 (Kirby Dach and Alex Newhook), who, at 22-23 years old, have the ideal age to help the Tricolore in its rebuilding process.
Moreover, thanks to the many draft picks acquired by the organization lately, Kent Hughes has excellent ammunition to offer a very interesting "package" to Pat Verbeek, who is not the biggest fan of Trevor Zegras.
Of course, this does not mean that a transaction will take place, but it demonstrates how much the idea of seeing the star forward join the Bleu-Blanc-Rouge is not so crazy, especially since media in Anaheim start to discuss it.
"Clearly, therefore, it's not only in Montreal where we find that the Canadiens would be a destination that would have allure for Zegras, who would inject a huge dose of offensive talent into a group of forwards that desperately lacks it in Montreal." - Félix Forget
Adding to this is the fact that Kent Hughes has clearly indicated that he wants to add young players with huge offensive potential. Let's just say that Trevor Zegras fits perfectly with this description!
Would you be ready to trade the Canadiens' first-round pick in 2024 to get your hands on the Ducks' forward?
