The Ducks forward had been repeatedly linked to the Montreal Canadiens. It appears that Kent Hughes's interest in the talented American is still present.
However, it raises the question of why players like Zegras and even Martin Necas of the Hurricanes remain with their respective teams despite numerous rumors.
Renaud Lavoie provided some interesting insights during his morning segment on BPM Sports:
«Who were we talking about? We were talking a lot about Trevor Zegras and Martin Necas. It's curious that today, both are still with their respective teams and haven't been traded to the Montreal Canadiens or elsewhere.»
«It's not that we didn't try, whether it was the Canadiens or other teams, to acquire these players.»
- Renaud Lavoie
The TVA Sports journalist also stated that there had been discussions between Kent Hughes and the general managers of the two players mentioned above.
For now, nothing has materialized. Patrik Laine may have been more aligned with what the Canadiens were willing to pay for a top-6 forward.
However, discussions might lead to a resolution later in the season...
