«For several years, we've anticipated improvements, believing that we are a better team each summer and at the start of each season. But this summer is special.
We managed to draft an excellent first-round pick in [Ivan] Demidov, and last week we completed a trade to bring one of the league's top scorers (
Patrik Laine) on board. I believe we have improved.
On defense, in goal, and up front, I think we're starting to build a very strong core of players who are among the best in the league. I have no doubt that this was the right approach because, in the NHL today, with the salary cap and the competition across the league, rebuilding is necessary from time to time.
Three years ago, when I thought it would take 3, 4, 5, or 6 years to see one of the best teams in the league again, it seemed like a long time. But three years later, I realize it went by quickly.»
