Many fans are eagerly awaiting the trade deadline to see if Kent Hughes can manage to acquire additional assets to aid the organization in its rebuilding process.

Obviously, Sean Monahan was the player attracting the most attention from the Canadiens, but the trade involving Elias Lindholm seemed to accelerate negotiations, so much so that the Montreal center was traded to the Winnipeg Jets the very next morning.
Indeed, the Canadiens added a first-round pick in 2024 and a conditional third-round pick in 2027. However, the 29-year-old veteran will need to help his new team win the championship this year if the CH wishes to obtain an additional selection in three years.
While on TSN690, insider Darren Dreger, who often has the opportunity to discuss with general managers and players' agents, mentioned that the Bleu-Blanc-Rouge is very popular on the trade market currently.
He confirmed that Kent Hughes is a very busy man at the moment, adding that he is receiving numerous calls regarding the availability and the price for some of his players.

Moreover, Dreger indicated that four players often come up in discussions, namely Josh Anderson, Arber Xhekaj, David Savard, and Jake Allen. However, although several teams wish to acquire their services, he believes it would be surprising to see a trade completed.
Kent Hughes absolutely wants to get an interesting return for one of the four players mentioned earlier, which could hinder the Canadiens' chances of adding draft picks or even top prospects in the near future.
Dreger specifically confirmed that the CH is not interested in parting with its two defenders (David Savard and Arber Xhekaj). However, every year, the trade market intensifies as the deadline approaches. Could a general manager panic and offer an irresistible deal to the Canadiens?
It's a possibility that could very well happen, which would certainly force the management to revise its plans.
One thing is for sure, Kent Hughes will be one to watch over the coming weeks!
