With a few weeks left until the trade deadline, although the market has quieted down after the moves of Elias Lindholm and Sean Monahan, there's still a lot of activity behind the scenes in the NHL.

At the Montreal Canadiens, a few players could soon leave the team, including Jake Allen and Tanner Pearson. However, if a trade were to happen for them, don't be shocked if the return is minimal.
On the other hand, there is another player who could fetch a hefty return for the Canadiens, certainly more than Monahan, and that's David Savard.
According to RDS, the Quebecois defenseman is highly sought after on the market right now.
It's well known that Kent Hughes does not intend to trade Savard; he has openly mentioned it in press conferences. However, he also stated that he is always listening for a trade involving anyone from his organization, and if the return improves his team, he will do it.
At the trade deadline, it happens annually that a team overpays for the services of a sought-after player. We have seen it several times in the past, including last year with Tanner Jeannot, for example. The Lightning paid a young player and five draft picks, including a first and second-round pick, to acquire a robust player with marginal production.
Savard is the type of player who can bring so many important things to a team aiming for nothing less than a championship.
His excellent defensive play, his non-negligible offensive output, and all the intangibles he brings to the locker room, such as the experience of winning the Stanley Cup and significant leadership, make him a high-quality addition.
The best part is that he also comes with the assurance of playing another season next year with a reasonable salary of $3.5M. So, he's not just a rental player.
Nonetheless, I doubt Savard will leave the Canadiens by the end of the season, partly because of all the points mentioned above. His presence in a young locker room like that of the Canadiens is also highly valued by the club's management.
