The Edmonton Oilers are six wins away from the Stanley Cup, but once again, they have a goaltending issue with Stuart Skinner's inconsistent performances.
This year, we've extensively discussed Jake Allen's situation with the Canadiens. The goaltender ultimately had to wait until the final hour of the trade deadline to be moved.
Allen was traded from the Canadiens to the Devils in exchange for a conditional 3rd-round pick and delivered strong performances for this young team towards the end of the season.
The Oilers had several discussions with Kent Hughes regarding Jake Allen. The veteran goalie interested Ken Holland, but the general manager refused to give the Canadiens what they were asking for.
In hindsight, Jake Allen could have greatly assisted the Oilers in this playoff journey. Maybe not as the #1 goalie ahead of Skinner, but the veteran netminder would have been valuable insurance for the McDavid-led squad.
If the Oilers end up sinking and losing to the Stars partially due to goaltending performance, Ken Holland might regret it for a long time...
