Kent Hughes has recently done significant work to secure contracts for his young defensemen. He might now turn his attention to another ongoing issue.

Specifically, improving the offense, as he hinted during the end-of-season press conference.
Martin Necas recently signed a new contract with the Hurricanes. While Patrik Laine frequently comes up in trade rumors, another player might also catch the attention of the Canadiens' general manager.
Oliver Wahlstrom has struggled to take off with the New York Islanders since being selected 11th overall in the 2018 NHL Draft.
A fresh start could be just what he needs, given his potential talent in puck control.
Wahlstrom has signed a new one-year deal worth one million dollars. The message from the Islanders and Lou Lamoriello is clear.
«It would be surprising if Wahlstrom is part of the opening night lineup. Unless there's a substantial improvement in his play... a contract doesn't change the underlying reality that Wahlstrom's presence on the NHL (Islanders) roster is very unlikely.»

The Canadiens were very interested in Wahlstrom in 2018. Although the management has changed since then, Kent Hughes might be tempted to take a chance on reviving or fully launching Oliver Wahlstrom's NHL career.
Could this be a call to Lou Lamoriello?

Tout indique qu'Oliver Wahlstrom quittera Long island
