Trade Looming Between the Wild and Canadiens?
TVA Sports recently published an article that has sparked considerable discussion. The sports channel suggested that the Montreal Canadiens' goaltender, Jake Allen, might potentially be in the sights of the Minnesota Wild's General Manager, Bill Guerin.
« Jake Allen in the sights of the Wild? » - TVA Sports
This is somewhat surprising since the Wild have not been among the many teams (Oilers, Devils, and Hurricanes) linked to the 33-year-old veteran in recent weeks. In fact, this is the first time we've heard Jake Allen's name associated with the Wild.
However, the team's number one goalie, Filip Gustavsson, has been placed on the injured list and might be out for several weeks, according to information disclosed by the excellent Michael Russo. This development could potentially force Bill Guerin to be active on the trade market, as his team tries to secure a playoff spot.
Several teams are currently looking for a goaltender, and Jake Allen would certainly be an interesting option for some of them. It wouldn't be surprising if general managers consider the possibility of making a trade with the Canadiens to acquire Jake Allen in the coming days.
Unfortunately, as we have seen recently, the value of goaltenders seems very minimal on the trade market at the moment. Numerous teams had the opportunity to claim Ilya Samsonov, Antti Raanta, and Eric Comrie for free, but they simply decided to pass.
Furthermore, knowing that the Canadiens' GM, Kent Hughes, is asking for a high return, it raises questions about whether the three-goalie situation will finally see a resolution soon. Although there has been no confirmed information about the Wild's interest in Jake Allen, it will be interesting to keep an eye on Bill Guerin's future personnel moves.
Certainly, this is a situation to watch closely!
