In recent weeks, two well-known hockey insiders, Elliotte Friedman and Darren Dreger, reported intriguing information regarding trade rumors between the Montreal Canadiens and the Edmonton Oilers.
According to them, Oilers General Manager Ken Holland showed interest in all three Montreal goaltenders. This interest was evident with the presence of several Oilers scouts at Canadiens games this week.
Eric Engels recently confirmed this, stating that Canadiens GM Kent Hughes would not trade one of his goalies merely to assist another team. Hughes is aware of his advantageous position in negotiations and aims to secure a substantial return for Jake Allen, Samuel Montembeault, or even Cayden Primeau.
"As Elliotte Friedman reported, the Oilers have inquired about all Montreal's goalies. (Primeau, Allen, Montembeault). But the Canadiens won't give any of them away without asking for a high price, and they won't move until a team is ready to pay the asked price." - Eric Engels
Hughes clearly understands that the Oilers, needing a backup for Stuart Skinner, might be willing to meet his demands, which could favor the Canadiens in negotiations.
It's intriguing that Ken Holland is genuinely interested in acquiring a Montreal goaltender. A trade could materialize soon, especially as the Canadiens management wants to provide Martin St-Louis with just two goalies in his lineup.
This is definitely a situation to monitor closely over the coming weeks!
