Former Top-10 Pick Officially on the Market: Kent Hughes Will Almost Certainly Kick Tires on 2019 Eighth Overall Pick Philip Broberg
For several weeks now, trade rumors involving a Montreal Canadiens goaltender, either Jake Allen or Cayden Primeau, and the Edmonton Oilers have been a hot topic. According to Elliotte Friedman, Oilers General Manager Ken Holland is reportedly very interested in acquiring one of the Montreal goaltenders.
Recently, an interesting development occurred. Various sources, including Frank Seravalli, report that the Oilers are considering trading their former eighth overall pick, Philip Broberg, to acquire a player (or a goaltender) who can provide immediate help.
The Oilers have reportedly allowed the 6'4", 212-pound Swedish defenseman to discuss with other teams to find a trade partner.

Given the Oilers' desperate search for a new goaltender to back up Stuart Skinner, one wonders if Kent Hughes and Ken Holland could resume discussions to complete a trade involving veteran goalie Jake Allen and the 22-year-old defenseman Philip Broberg.
Certainly, Broberg is now available on the trade market, and it will be fascinating to see where he ends up.
Although Broberg has struggled to establish himself in the NHL over the past three seasons, there is no doubt that the defenseman, selected 8th overall in 2019, has a lot of talent. He has been particularly dominant during his time in the AHL, amassing 29 points in just 42 games, and certainly has the size to succeed in the NHL.
