The Montreal Canadiens are unexpectedly still dealing with a three-goalie situation, even four months into the season. General Manager Kent Hughes has admitted to engaging in discussions with other teams to trade one of his goaltenders, but no deal has been finalized.
On the latest episode of the podcast "32 Thoughts," Elliotte Friedman revealed that a trade between the Edmonton Oilers and the Canadiens, involving Jake Allen, was very close to happening. However, a last-minute change in circumstances led to the deal falling through.
This confirms the numerous rumors that Ken Holland, the Oilers' General Manager, was interested in acquiring the 33-year-old veteran, Jake Allen.
However, Friedman also mentioned that the Oilers' twelve consecutive victories seemed to change the team's plans, making it unlikely that Allen is still a target for Holland.
