Swimmer Lazar Dukic passed away during a competition
CrossFit athlete Lazar Dukic tragically passed away during a competition yesterday morning.
At 28, he was nearing the end of an 800-meter swim, broadcast live from Marine Creek Lake in Fort Worth, when he was reported missing under the water.
Despite immediate efforts to locate him, his body was found approximately two hours later.
The CrossFit Games confirmed Dukic's death and suspended the day's events pending the investigation's outcome.
A Serbian native, Dukic was an experienced competitor with a strong reputation, ranking third in Serbia and 88th globally.
His last Instagram post, urging fans to tune in to the event, has become a poignant final tribute.
Seven firefighter units were mobilized for the search, while 10,000 people attended the event, which has now been halted.
We extend our deepest condolences to his family and friends.
