Kristopher Letang's name has been circulating in trade rumors linking him to the Canadiens over the past few days.

Several details have emerged about this. According to Mark Madden, a well-known Pittsburgh journalist, the Quebec-born defenseman indeed requested a trade to continue his career in Montreal.
«I've heard of discussions to send Letang to Montreal at Letang's own request, but nothing has materialized.» - M. Madden

It should also be noted that Kent Hughes was Letang's former agent. While this might not mean much, it's clear that the two men know each other well, and the Canadiens' general manager holds Letang in high regard.
Letang's request is said to have occurred in the summer of 2022. However, since then, the player, who has been with the Penguins throughout his career, signed a six-year deal worth $6.1 million annually, lasting until 2028.
This is a substantial contract for a team in rebuilding mode like the Canadiens. While one should never say never, it appears that the possibility of Letang moving to Montreal is now a thing of the past.
The Canadiens now boast a wealth of young talent on defense, and the future at this position looks very promising.
